Production Optimisation

Working with Nexen CNOOC I was responsible for significantly improving their production optimisation efforts across all of their UKCS assets. Over a 3 year period, in the role of Team Lead, I took them from a position of having a reasonable loss management approach, to being recognised as Best in Class by our industry peers and the UK regulator.

Water Injection and Production performance was significantly improved and unplanned losses were reduced across all assets.

Operations Excellence - Jordan

This project was on behalf of BP Exploration as part of a multi well drilling programme in the Eastern deserts of Jordan.

I was embedded with the established National Petroleum Company (NPC) to introduce and embed improved standards of operational performance. This included delivering a Control of Work process, procedures, loss management, and supporting and developing the local leadership teams.

A massively enjoyable project with incredible Jordanian colleagues.

Operations Excellence - In Salah, Algeria

A 2 year project to support the In Salah Gas operation in the Southern Sahara. This gas plant was a JV between BP / Statoil / Sonatrach, and was a newly commissioned operation.

The challenge was to introduce the national workforce to the principles of Operations Excellence, to ensure high efficiency and safety standards, and drive a sustainable culture of performance.

This was a massive success and the core principles are still in practice onsite.

Operations Excellence - BTC Pipeline, Turkey

The BTC pipeline was, at the time, one of the largest crude oil pipelines in the world. Transporting over 1 million barrels of crude from the Caspian 1700km to the Ceyhan Terminal on the Mediterranean. 

We supported the Turkish sector, which was the largest at over 1000km, and was located in the Eastern Caucasus mountains. Embedded with the Turkish operations teams, on behalf of BP, we worked across all 4 pump stations and the loading terminal for 2 years. 


Murray worked with the In Salah operations excellence team as both a coach, a facilitator, and a provider of expert advice. Working with him was hugely developmental for some of our operations staff, who have since gone on to take up senior positions within the organisation where they have continued to bring the operations excellence thinking to life. Murray's ability to build strong coaching relationships. Despite the cultural and language differences was remarkable, as well as his energy to sustain the momentum behind the ops excellence programme. This programme delivered great cost savings to ISG- as well as contributing to building the type of culture we desired.
